Medusa

Noooooo idea what category to put this under.

This is my take on Medusa. After watching the History Channel's "Clash of the Gods" on Medusa a few weeks ago, I really wanted to draw her. They said that Medusa was a worshiper in Athena's Temple when the sea god Poseidon raped her. This angered Athena and in return punished Medusa by cursing her to look like a corpse forever. The description was black bulging eyes, bloated tongue, hair like snakes, so on.

I felt bad for her because she did nothing wrong yet was sentenced to be alone for the rest of her life. I can't help but think she must have been very lonely.

So for this drawing I wanted her to be shielding herself from any possible spectators which is why she's in a cloak, crying.

Poor lonesome Medusa.
